For the last few months post Covid-19 lock down in New Zealand, my sculptor husband Chauncey Flay and I have been renovating an old shop on the main street of Opunake, a rural town in South Taranaki.
The original idea of the space was to create a place for me to make art, teach and sell and display my work and display Chauncey's sculpture. It certainly has been a labour of love and is still a work-in-progress! That said, I have managed to have the front gallery space open over the last few months.
The front showroom is open most weekends (Fri - Sun 10 -2).
If the gallery lights are on, I'm most likely to be working in my studio out the back, so visitors are most welcome to come in and have a browse.
For a small town, situated on the legendary Surf Highway 45, there is a surprisingly active and flourishing arts community with many artist run spaces, small galleries and open studios. For more information on all the artist spaces in Opunake click here.
Forbes & Flay is located right next door to Sugar Juice Café, so be sure to check us out next time you're passing through.
